Expressing yourself through nail art is a beauty rite of passage. Sure, they may be tiny in size, but they’re easily one of the coolest accessories you own. Why not capitalize on them by trying some of the biggest nail trends of 2025? We asked manicurists about the nail art, colors, and designs poised for popularity in the new year to give you some ideas of what to ask for the next time you see your nail tech.
B1. Bold Nail Art Renaissance
Over the last few years we’ve seen a notable rise in “quiet luxury,” but we’re starting to see a bit of a pendulum swing in the other direction—at least when it comes to nails.
“I’d keep an eye out for the resurgence of nail art as younger generations start to embrace more maximalist styles like the recently popular “Y3k” trend,” says Anna Parvatova, creative director at SNS Nails. “I expect nail art to have a sort of renaissance because it goes very well with this dystopian aesthetic, as well as practically any maximalist fashion style.”
2. 3D Designs
Within the greater trend of maximalist nail art, 3-dimensional designs that ooze texture and pizzazz are a major nail trend in 2025, says Tara Haye, a manicurist for Nailing Hollywood. This looks like raised designs, glued-on baubles and crystals, cascading pearls, intricate floral or “fruit”-themed embellishments, and beyond.
3. Lots of Layers
Adjacent to the 3D looks that are bound to pop off in the coming months, expect to see lots of layered nail art designs. “Layered nail art that mixes different textures, colors, patterns, and finishes to create depth and dimension is expected to stay popular in 2025,” says manicurist Mazz Hanna, founder of Nailing Hollywood. “It’s a trend that brings a luxurious feel and provides endless ways to get creative with your nails.”
4. Chrome Finishes
Chrome nails aren’t going anywhere soon. “A chrome topper can be used with any base coat color, so there are endless combinations to try,” says Rose Herr, founder of Polished. “We saw red and green chrome nails during the holiday season, but we predict we’ll continue to see it as people move on to lighter colors for spring and summer. If you’re not into nail art or intricate designs, adding chrome can really elevate your basic mani and make it more trendy.”
5. Metallic Accents
Similarly, metallic accents are queen in 2025 so bring on the shine. “Metallic nails will continue to trend in 2025 because they add just the right amount of edge to any look,” Hanna says. “Whether it’s chrome tips, foil details, or full metallic finishes, these designs always feel bold and modern.” Also consider jumping on the cat eye and velvet nails trend.
6. Greener Formulas
Vegan and otherwise eco-friendly nail products continue gaining momentum. “These nail products have been quite popular within the past few years since people are transitioning to greener lifestyles,” Haye says. If you haven’t made the switch yet, now’s the time. Your nails and the earth will thank you.
7. A Spectrum of Reds
Tiktok introduced us all to the ‘red nail’ theory, and it was easy to give it a try! “Red is a classic nail color, but there are so many more options than our grandmother’s red nails,” Herr says. “Deep reds the color of wine and cherry cola will continue to be popular throughout the winter.” Come spring, try on brighter shades with hints of pink (cool) or orange (warm).
8. Short, Rounded Nails with Dark Colors
Short, rounded nails painted in dark shades like deep red, espresso, or navy are a perfect blend of bold and polished. “Darker tones are rich and sophisticated, so this trend is ideal for anyone who wants a polished look without long extensions,” Hanna says. She says it’s perfect option for those who prefer lowkey, practical designs but still want to engage in the maximalism we’re seeing.
9. Lingering Minimalism
While nail enthusiasts in 2025 are embracing bolder and louder colors and designs, Parvatova says that there’s still room for neutrals and minimalist approaches. “In particular, I’d be on the lookout for earthy tones, which tend to be very easy to pair with any outfit,” she says. “They’re also great for working individuals because they allow for a stylish look without drawing too much attention.”
10. Shades of Brown
If there’s one color reigning on the minimalist throne, it’s gotta be brown. “Pantone announced ‘Mocha Mousse’ as the 2025 color of the year, and we’ll definitely see that in nails,” Herr tells us. “There are so many beautiful brown shades available, and we predict we’ll see more of them this year. A rich brown manicure can look so elegant, and is a great option as an on-trend neutral.”
